ATLAS
CLEAR BLEND LUBRICANTS
The
CLEAR Choice.
Oil
is to your engine as blood is to the human body.
It is the essential ingredient to making your engine
run smoothly and efficiently. With the ever increasing
brands of oil in the market today, how can you choose
the right oil for your needs?
Look
for oils that meet or have the following criteria:

-
API
Certification Mark "Starburst": Otherwise
known as the ILSAC "Starburst". This symbol
is designed for identification of engine oils recommended
for a general application (i.e. gasoline service).
Oils must meet ILSAC minimum standard performance
requirements for engine protection and fuel economy
to earn this certification mark. The most current
requirements for an oil to carry this mark is GF-4.
ILSAC stands for "International Lubricant Standardization
& Approval Committee".
-
API
Service Symbol: This symbol, otherwise known as
the "donut" identifies 3 major points
of an oil.
-
Performance
Level: "S" is for gasoline engines, and
"C" is for Commercial-diesel engines.
The most current API performance categories are
listed in the API
Service Category Chart.
-
SAE
Viscosity Grade: In our example, the first number
tells us how quickly an engine will crank in cold
temperatures and how well the oil will flow to lubricate
vital engine parts. The lower the number, the easier
it will be for the engine to crank in cold temperatures.
The second number indicates the thickness of the
oil at operating temperatures and how well it will
lubricate. A multi-grade oil as in our example will
provide the necessary cold weather flow while retaining
its thickness properties for higher operating temperatures.
Always refer to your owner's manual for proper grade
oil selection.
-
This
area will reference whether it meets certain energy
conserving properties as tested against other reference
oils. If this area reads "Energy Conserving",
they have passed the required tests. As a whole,
the use of these types of oils will result in overall
fuel savings, but cannot be guaranteed for any one
vehicle owner.
Atlas CLEAR BLEND oils offer a wide selection
for gasoline, heavy duty, and commercial-diesel
applications. All Atlas CLEAR BLEND oils are
manufactured to meet and exceed OEM Specifications,
as well as carrying both API Marks for selected
grades as required.
